Jeff Bezos ‘ space venture company Blue Origin has recently be auctioned off a seat for upcoming first crewed spaceflight on Saturday for $28 million.
The name of the winner of the auction has not been disclosed but he will be flying to the edge of space along with the Amazon founder and his brother Mark on the new Blue Origin Shepard rocket which is set to launch on the 20th of July.
The company is said to be revealing the name of the winning bidder in the next week.
Auction For The Seat
Auction opened at $ 4.8 million, but in the first few minutes of trading, the bid reached $ 20 million.
The proceeds from the auction will be donated to the non-profit Blue Origin Education Club which has a focus on education and training of the children.
The Spaceflight
Blue Origin director of astronaut and orbital sales Ariane Cornell said during the auction webcast that New Shepard’s first passenger flight will carry four people, including Bezos, his brother, the auction winner and a fourth person to be announced later.
Bezos founded Blue Origin in 2000 and is still owning the company. He is financing it’s operations and tests by selling shares of his Amazon firm.
On July 20 it is going to be a noteworthy day because it marks the 52nd anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
