Joshua Bassett showed some love for Sabrina Carpenter as he promoted her new song, Skin. It is rumored to be addressing the alleged love triangle between Joshua, Sabrina and Olivia Rodrigo.
The actor wrote that the song is stuck in his head since he first heard it. He posted a story on Instagram along with the artwork of the track. “Congratulations @sabrinacarpenter on ‘skin,’ the new label, & all that’s to come!!!” he wrote.
Joshua, Olivia, and Sabrina have been trending on social media ever since Olivia released her superhit debut song, Driver’s License. It is a breakup ballad seemingly inspired by her allegedly messy split with Joshua her High School Musical: The Musical: The Series costar.
Olivia’s track went viral as fans focused on the lyrics: “And you’re probably with that blonde girl/ Who always made me doubt/ She’s so much older than me/ She’s everything I’m insecure about.” They pointed out that the blonde Olivia seems to refer to is Sabrina. She has been sparking romance rumors with Joshua over the last couple of months. Sabrina Carpenter has seemingly addressed the drama that she has been in, in her latest song. The singer released a new track, Skin and fans think it was written as a response to a rumored feud between her and Olivia Rodrigo.
Sabrina sings in her new track, “Maybe we could’ve been friends/ If I met you in another life/ Maybe then we could pretend/ There’s no gravity in the words we write/ Maybe you didn’t mean it/ Maybe blonde was the only rhyme.”
Joshua Also Addresses Olivia’s Song
Fans quickly interpreted her song to be a response to Olivia. They took to Twitter and shared their own thoughts on the lyrics. Twitter also pointed out other lyrics that came to their theory that the new track by Sabrina is a clap back. The lyrics pointed out include, “And I’m not asking you to let it go but; You been tellin’ your side/ So I’ll be tellin’ mine,” and “You can try; To get under my under my under my skin; While he’s on mine,” as well as, “Don’t drive yourself insane.”
Both Olivia and Joshua have never confirmed their off-screen romance but fans believe that they previously dated before breaking up last year. Olivia did a TikTok as she talked about failed relationships back in August.
Sabrina and Joshua have been linked together time and again. They posted their Halloween couples costume on TikTok as well. Joshua also released a new song this month which is seemingly about Olivia’s single, Driver’s License.
The song is titled Lie Lie Lie and includes lyrics like, “I know what you said about me / I hope that it makes you happy; You can’t seem to get me off your mind,”; and the music video features Bassett driving through the desert, which mirrors scenes from the music video for “Drivers License.”
Before the release of her 2019 album, Singular Act II, Sabrina had opened up about her writing process; as she explained that her songs are a reflection of what is happening in her life. “I definitely felt that within the songs that I was writing, it wasn’t so much struggling with my identity, as struggling with coming to terms with who I am,” she said at the time. “I feel like this past year is definitely — ups and downs-wise — like a roller coaster. It’s taught me a lot, that’s for sure. But it also stretched me to different places that I didn’t think that I could go before.”
